Humility: An Unlikely Biography of America’s Greatest Virtue by David J. Bobb Ph.D

Humility as a virtue, seen through the eyes of five great historical figures from early history, fills the pages of Humility. The author shares numerous stories while giving ideal examples.

Research by Bobb, informs readers how certain leaders embraced this virtue in decision making. One can ponder the extent humility plays in our leaders of today.

Humility is a thought provoking book. For example, in Part 1, Bobb talks about Jesus and Socrates. He writes, “Like Jesus, Socrates never wrote anything . . .” Those few words as part of a sentence made me think. I attended catholic school for eight years and never once considered, did Jesus ever write anything? Why didn’t he leave his own scripture for us? It’s taken me years to consider something I should have questioned many years ago.

I recommend Humility for history lovers, especially those who enjoy learning new pearls of wisdom about early historical leaders. One doesn’t usually wonder about our current leaders’ humility. We hope they practice the virtue, but we don’t give it much thought with all the problems happening in the world. Humility serves as a reminder.
